What you actually see
Built in 1450 by Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland, as a gate in Alnwick's town defences. It's also known as the Hotspur Tower after Harry Hotspur, and it's really a gatehouse: a three-storey arch flanked by two polygonal towers.
Known for: Also called the Hotspur Gate.
