Twizel Castle is in Twizel, near Cornhill-on-Tweed. It's privately owned and can only be seen from outside. Seen from a public footpath any time.
What you actually see
James IV's army destroyed the medieval tower here in 1496. In the 1770s the Blake family started a grand Gothic castle on the site, planned at five storeys, but it was never finished and is on the Heritage at Risk register. Below it, the Tudor Twizel Bridge crosses the River Till.
Known for: A Georgian Gothic castle that was never finished.
